Snooker

It was during a game of billiards played by a Colonel who belonged to the Devonshire regiment that the word snooker was coined, wherein he referred to his opponent who could not pot the balls properly! The word snooker was used in the military to denote young army officers who have just joined the services. This game was highly popular among the officers of the British army who were serving in India and it was here that the officers began to use coloured balls to play the original game of billiards and soon this game came to be known as snooker.

This game of snooker can be termed as a cue sport, which is played using a huge table that had four pockets at each corner of the table. The table used to play snooker is generally 12ft x 6ft. In this game the players use what is called a cue to hit the cue ball. There are totally 15 red balls, which are worth one point each, and another 6 differently coloured balls, which are each worth 2 to 7 points each. The player uses the cue to pot the red and coloured balls to score points. If a player scores more points than his opponent then he is said to have won a frame.

Snooker is also a popular game like pool and billiards that is played by many people in the world, especially in Asia and China. There are championship tournaments being held where the stakes can be very high up to millions of dollars. You can find snooker tables in many pubs where it is quite a popular game among people who frequent these night spots. Some people also have their own snooker tables at home and regularly chill out with friends over a game of snooker or pool.
